Puppy Food Calculator
Enter your puppy’s details and the calorie figure from the food bag. You’ll get a daily starting amount, split into meals.
How this calculator works
It uses the standard veterinary starting point: resting energy requirement (RER) = 70 × body weight in kg0.75, multiplied by a life-stage factor.
| Life stage | Factor used |
|---|---|
| Puppy under 4 months | 3.0 × RER |
| 4 months until adult size | 2.0 × RER |
| Adult, spayed or neutered | 1.6 × RER |
| Adult, intact | 1.8 × RER |
“Adult size” is assumed at about 10 months for toy and small breeds, 12 months for medium, 15 months for large and 18 months for giant breeds. Treats should stay under about 10% of the daily total, so take them out of the meal amount.
Every dog is different. Use the result as a starting point, check your dog’s body condition every one to two weeks, and adjust by about 10% at a time. Our guide on how much to feed a puppy explains body condition scoring step by step.
